New DDI - should it appear on Natwest Online banking?

Hi,

I have a new Natwest Credit Card and have set up a direct debit payment for minimum payment. The statement that I recently received does mention that the minimum payment will be taken on the due date (which is 28 Jan 09).

However, in my Natwest Online Banking, the D/D instruction is still not showing up. Should I be concerned at all?

(I have another Natwest Student Credit Card - about to be cancelled soon. Could it be that my Natwest Current Account will not allow 2 D/Ds from the same originator?)

Thanks!

  • Hi firsttimestudent,

I have a Natwest account and my DD's don't seem to show up online until the 1st payment has been taken. This has been the case with lots (or even all) of the DD's I have. Recently I was a bit worried that my Egg Card DD wasn't set up (and they even said on the phone banking that it wasn't) but it showed up on the day it went out and all was ok.

As direct debits are only called for by the originator a few days before the money is taken from your account, the bank will never know in advance when the money is due to be taken. As you have it in writing from Natwest that they will collect the DD on that day they will clearly have it set up by that date.

OP, customer services will be able to see if a DD instruction has been received and from whom. You can call or go into the branch.

Weeeeeeeeeell, if you phone when no instruction has been received, then they aren't going to be able to see anything. But they should be able to tell you if an instruction has been received, but they won't be able to tell you when it's going to start.

  • Why not send a message to Natwest one using their online message service up on the right handside of the screen. They usually get back to you very quickly or give them a call.

I haven't got a Direct Debit handbook/guide anymore but from memory I think there is a flag the originator can set on the DD instruction to set it up electronically and take an amount the same day.

  • Hi, thanks for your help. My direct debit was taken today, and yes, it only showed up on my Natwest Online Banking today!
