Boffer Closing down sale tonight?

I agree that much of their stuff is rubbish, BUT a lot of it is very good and very good value.
I've never had a problem with them and hope they live long and prosp.......oh you know.0 -
I've only ever been tempted to buy one boffer... A 16Gb mp3 player that was on sale a while ago for something like £85.
I did a 30second search and saw it on Amazon for, I think, £78 delivered... Have always taken their deals with a pinch of salt since then. Still check it every day of course!0 -
Their demise was another Boffer spoof, they were having a little gloat at the whingers who reported them. :rotfl:
I've had a few items from Boffer and was happy with what I got. I tried their BOC last time and was very pleased with what my £4.99 plus £2.99 postage bought me, several items including an iPod Nano 3G 8GB player. :T
I've not had any problems when dealing with Boffer.......yet!

I've found boffer is like Marmite - you either love it or hate it!
Personally i've had nothing but good stuff from Boffer!
I've got a couple of their freebies, and the stuff i've bought has been good also! Got a 20Gb MP3 player for £20 for Xmas which was ideal for a 9yr old!
In my last BOC i got a large holdall which was RRP £90/Bigpockets £30, so i was very happy! Even had a detachable smaller bag which was ideal as a gym bag which i needed!
I think they have got the effect they were after!
The idea of marketing is to get people talking about the site/products and this is happening even more now, which can be seen in this forum and probably many others!
Good luck to them.0 -

You are right there, I'd say it's more like a cult religion, those in it have fallen for the pitch and will defend it. The rest of us who can see it for what it is can't believe that people believe they are getting a bargain.
I watched their offers for a few weeks but every item was either rubbish that or could be got cheaper elsewhere. After about 6 weeks of useless deals I bought an MP4 player from them as it was a reasonable deal a couple of £ less than I could find it except for eBay. It never turned up, and when I mentioned it on their forum that I hadn't received it my posts got deleted. They didn't have the decency to inform me that they in fact did not have any to send. I had to contact them and ask for e refund. I'm sure they were banking on the fact that some people who order lots of stuff from them will have forgotten about the item they bought and would forget to claim a refund.
So the reasons I don't like them and in fact take the opportunity to try and warn others is.
1. Shady business practices including ... Spamming forums like this one, pretending to be happy customers, they got banned from HUKD for having a number of logins used for self promotion. Offering incentives to people to spam forums, such as free items. Having several brands and trying to hide the fact that they are all run by the same company.
2. Poor customer service, being obnoxious to customers, failing to deliver items that are ordered. Deleting messages and banning users that dare question them or point out that a deal is not very good. In fact on their 24Gone site, they went as far as removing the forums because they couldn't deal with the volume of posts from people saying how bad their deals were and how they were just another name for boffer. They really didn't like it when people pointed out they were actually boffer under another name. They seemed to want to hide that so that people thought that they were in competition with boffer, but in fact it was just a way of extracting more money from gullible people by offer 2 items a day.
3. Breaking the law by selling new items with only 90 day warranty. The sale of goods act requires new (not second hand) items to include a minimum of a 1 year warranty.
I think you get the idea. I think I'd rather take my chances with Hong kong eBay sellers.0 -

I've ever visited Boffer twice but this advice was enough to make my mind about these guys.
Dixons Group operates under several brands (wthout most people realizing) so I have no qualms about that but to sell stuff with only 90 days warranty and forum spamming tut tut tut.0 -
I can understand why Dixons and Currys of old were separate. It used to be that Dixons sold 'Brown Goods' things like TV's, Radios etc where as Currys sold 'White Goods' like washing machines.
I think however that DSG lost their way a bit and all of their shops started selling all the same products. But at least DSG are up front about it their web sites all clearly state that they are DSG web sites, they don't seem to try and hide it. Not that I'm a fan of DSG with their complete lack of knowledge and rip off prices, but they at least comply with the appropriate laws.0 -
SVP don't sell rubbish, they sell things like blank CD-Rs and DVD-Rs, or plastic sleeves to put them in.
Thanks to all who post constructively.
Have an A1 day!0 -

Boffer Also Known As, 24Gone, SVP, BigPockets, ATMT and probably a few other names they want to hide behind. They stink and deserve to be wiped off the internet.
OK, I'll bite before Martin gets the site closed down......
SVP are not Big Pockets. I think you need to make sure you don't put spurious hearsay around the internet like this.
I think Steve at SVP would take much umbrage at that (those of you who have dealt with SVP will know that they're far better to deal with!)0 -

Totally agree, not ordered for a while from them but when I do, everything is fine.0
