Ok people, Like many of you I am fed up of paying Sky mega bucks for many channels I never watch. Have had a few months of discounted channels from sky but have decided to cancel once and for all my Sky+. So as I am going to use the free to air channels which I shall recieve from sky,I was wondering which would be best for recording purposes? A pvr which has freeview/epg/hard drive.Or a dvd recorder with built in hard drive? it would be nice to have a built in epg but if not I could live with out it.Also how do the Sky+ box and the recorder link? Is it all done by scarts? One last thing, going down the PVR route I think this will allow me to record up to 2 channels at once as does Sky+ at this time.If anyone can recommend a good piece of kit/price and were available, I would be most greatful. Thanks for any replys

Hi
I hate Sky,
Myself I have this one, does everything you want and more. You dont need to use your sky box, as the toppy has freeview, and you can can get e4, e4+ which you can't get from sky freeview, so we didnt need to link, we just gave our skybox away, but we didn't have sky+, yes it records 2 channels whilst watching another.
We decided against the dvd recorder, as we didn't want to make discs, so don't know about them.

You might look at the SONY 710. DVD with 160gb hard disc and built in Freeview which they use to make the recording of programmes very very easy. Its a nice machine but is just under £400 on various websites.0

I'm with wonderfullife and using the Topfield. No subscriptions (unless you want to go for TopUpTV), and there is a huge support network at Toppy.org.uk where you can get advice and enhancements to do almost anything with it. You can even change the look and feel or add features to better Sky+ by installing add-on programmes.
The 250Gb versions seems to be the best option around at the moment. This will change as newer or bigger competitors come along, but for now this is the tops.Jumbo

I have one of these machines and it is one of the best things I have bought. I have converted some videos to dvds too, its very easy to use. I recorded some films over christmas on the HD, and just burn them to dvd-r to keep. The quality is excellent. I bought mine for £399 for a multi region one off the web.
I have had no problems whatsoever...0 -
Is it possible to copy from PVR HDD to normal VHS? Have a mate who is still keen to use his VHS recorder before he eventually updates to DVD Recorder.
Was looking at TOPFIELD TF5800PVR TWIN TUNER FREEVIEW PERSONAL VIDEO RECORDER (160GB). Will this model record from HDD to VHS and is it easy to do?
Failing this, what is the best all-in-one solution for a twin digital tuner with HDD and DVD recorder?

Hi
Yes it is possible to copy to vcr from the toppy, if you buy one you will find all the help you will need on the forum.
You can also plug toppy into pc via usb, for firmware upgrades, and you can also transfer/copy downloaded films etc and burn to dvd, with the software from the toppy site. Not tried this myself but I think I will be soon.

Another option is the Humax 9200T. Twin Freeview tuners, 180GB hard drive and excellent feature set. Comes with a standard 2 year warranty at around £200. Available from Comet if you don't want to buy online. There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
