Cookers - Gas Vs Electric

Hi,

I need to replace an old cooker in the house i'm moving into as it no longer works.

In the past we've always tended to use gas ovens but just wondered if anyone knew which was most economic to run / cooks better (e.g cakes, yorkie puds etc) etc?

We need a built-in / built-under type but i have noticed gas cookers of this sort are few and far between. If you have any like this - what make is it and would you reccomend it?

I've had both gas and electric hobs and ovens. I prefer an electric oven, and a gas hob by choice.
My experience of gas ovens was with some older appliances, so they may have improved in recent years. Likewise with electric hobs: my mil has an induction hob which is far superior to the old coiled element types I loathed.

My electric oven is very good at cakes and yorkshire puds. It's far more even than my gas oven ever was, though I think you can get gas fan ovens these days? My electric oven has a setting for convection and fan: I use both depending on the thing I'm cooking, e.g. cakes on fan, roast meats on convection etc.
