Abbey has 'lost' £1000

The short version is my landlord said he hadn't recieved Decembers rent, so i paid again from another account thinking i had messed up, but checked my abbey account and the money was shown leaving so spent an hr with a guy in Abbey trying to locate and had DEF gone from my account, They did a recall on the money and said it would be back in 24-48hrs, this was last wk, still no money so went back intoday and girl said she would find out what is going on and call me back, that was 3hrs ago and my rent is supposed to go out again 2mo but i dont have enough to pay as have already paid thinking i was paying dec but i had already paid (ok that might be a bit confusing but hoping you guys will see what i mean)
agggghhhhhhhh

  • How was this paid? Standing order, direct debit or bill payment? If it is any of these have you/the bank checked the bank details to be paid into are correct. If the info was wrong the payment would bounce back to you within 48 hours. How did they recall the money?
  • went out 15th dec as standing order as it has been doing since feb last yr. They spoke to another dept and just said they could recall it. The bit of paper the guy gave me last thurs says 'Service request will be assigned to : banking services, banking & recouncilliation'

Has the landlord confirmed he's received the second payment (from your other account)?
  • yeah he got that
  • Has your landlord got his own bank to check their end, if it is some 'missing payments' queue although given the timescales they would have sent it back to the original account by now. The plot thickens on this one. Not sure how they will recall a standing order if it is in 'thin air'. The bank service request will only recall the standing order if it due to abbey error, usually it has gone into wrong account.

Your instance seems to suggest it has gone into thin air and so im tempted to suggest the problem could be at the end of the landlords bank.
  • thanks, will get him to call his bank again
  • I know it's no consolation but Abbey did almost the exact same thing with my rent middle of last year. Almost identical. Seems they do it an alarming amount of times.
Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.
  • i'm just thankful that im closing the account after its all been sorted and that when i move in feb i dont need a reference from the landlord
