Talking to a mate tonight who had his phone and broadband with ntl. He now says that he has cancelled his phoneline with ntl as he has skype and can make his calls through that. I thought that you had to have a phoneline for broadband? Can anybody clarify this or am I being told porkies?

Many (most?) NTL customers are CABLE customers and any broadband service is provided alongside the television and/or telephone services on that CABLE from NTL's cable systems rather than via telephone lines from a (BT) exchange.
Uses a different CABLE modem rather than a ADSL telephone modem.0 -
I have Telewest for broadband and once I had VoIP setup and working, I dropped my BT landline.
However I don't use Skype Hype, as they charge yearly for an incoming number, and charge for out going calls.
I used both Sipgate and VoIP Stunt, both offer for free an incoming number, and VoIP Stunt offers free calls to landlines in the UK and several other countries. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
VOIPStunt is amazing.... really grateful for your post it will save me loads! :j0
