My HP satnav has gone kaput and Dabs have told me that they cannot repair or replace - only a full refund. I'm quite happy with that.
Mrs Viking has a Tom Tom Go 720 and every shop is Tom Tom This and Tom Tom That.
My question is: Are Garmins any good and can you recommend one model?
I won't buy another Tom Tom because we have one already and I'm a bit too maverick to go mainstream.:D

I have a Garmin which replaced a faulty Navman, it will be an old model now but it's the Nuvi 250.
The difference between the Garmin and the Navman are huge, the Navman was very poor in all aspects compared to the Garmin which I can recommend.
I've never had a tom tom as I just don't like them for no particular reason !0 -
Yes, Garmins are good. I've used both and (for me) the user interface is slightly simpler. The instructions don't seem to be ~quite~ as clear at crowded junctions, but there seem to be slightly fewer map errors in my area.
What model depends on what features you want. If you want widescreen (I wouldn't bother TBH) and Europe maps then the Nuvi 250W works well for me. The less functional non-widesreens can be had for around £80.
I hated Navman a couple of years back, but haven't tried their recent models, so they may (should) have improved.0 -
We've got a Garmin Nuvi 250 W Software version 2.9 and have had a tom tom in the past and the Garmin is brillant! We took it with us to Italy last year and it was fantastic especially around the tiny little Italian streets0
