Cheque in Post

Hi
Does anyone know how long it should take for a cheque to reach me? This is a claim for an accident last October. They raised a cheque last Friday but I haven't received anything in the post yet. I rang today and they said it goes to another department to be printed and that it should have been sent. If I don't receive it can I ask to be paid via bank transfer?

First class is 1-2 days, second class is 3+, there is no guarantee on either of these services.
Have you checked out the lift share databases to see if you can do a lift share?
This would be a lot cheaper than taxis?
Have you also considered a 0% loan?
I got a 0% loan in a few days with no fee.
Could this help you out of this situation??0 -
Thanks lisyloo - where did you find 0% loan?My LBM - December 2010!

I got mine from Ulster bank.
It was only a couple of weeks ago but looks like it's gone now.
However ICICI bank are doing 0% balance transfers with no fees.

The full list is here, there are a relatively small number with no fees, others have 3% fees but that's still pretty good.

Anyone can get a 0% loan (for a short time) by delaying paying the bills (which don't have late payment penalties)!0

Usually when a cheque is requested by the claims handler it will need to be authorised before it is released - cheque process is usually several steps - handler requests cheque, team leader authorises cheque, request joins print queue and is then sent out. I expect you will have it tomorrow.0

I don't know the size of the loan the OP needs but this doesn't sound like a realistic plan for purchasing another car to me.
I borrowed £3K with one card for 6 months, so I think that is more reliastic.0 -

At my old job, the procedure was-
1. Raise the cheque, send it to be authorised.
2. Depending on the amount of other stuff, and the size of the claim, this will take anywhere from 1 hour to a couple of days.
3. Send it to the print que
4. Wait their next print run
5. Post it.0 -
The op hasn't asked about needing a loan!
No she hasn't, but in the context of her problem (on another thread) I think it's a sensible suggestion.
She cannot sort out her car problem because of delays in the payment for her accident.
A 0% loan would enable her to sort it out now and then pay off later at absolutely no cost.0 -

Also worth noting that you might lose incentives for doing this.
There are often discounts for paying by direct debit e.g. Npower certainly used to offer up to £100 for dual fuel by Direct Debit.
Quentin may of course have meant that, but beware that discounts and penalties are not the same thing when talking to companies.
lisylo>> "hello BT...Can you tell me whether there is any penalty for paying by cheque"
BT >>"No madam there is no penalty".
lisyloo>>"are you certain"
BT>>"absolutely 100%"
lisylo>> "so if I pay by cheque it's the same cost as direct debit"
BT:>>it costs less if you pay by DD"
lisyloo>> "So how come you don't describe that as a penalty?"
BT>> "Because madam, it's not a penalty, it's a discount"
lisyloo >>"But you KNEW that I wanted to know if the cost was higher, why are you being difficult?"
BT >>"You didn't ask that madam, you asked if there was a penalty and I'm just a mindless call center bod who can only answer direct questions and not work out what you want to ask.....I'm not mystic meg you know......"0
