want to take up an old hobby

I want to take up an old hobby, i used to love skiing (at the local synthetic slope not abroad!) and i'd like to start again. I have the money to pay for the actual slope time but i'm medically disqualified from driving and the bus service between my house and the ski centre is appalling (Livingston to midlothian ski centre). I'm on middle care and low mobility DLA is there any sort of scheme that helps people like me get out and about? I'm willing to pay but taxis in this area cost a fortune, just looking to save some money if possible.

You could also ask Glenmore Lodge if they have any weekend courses to suit you:

Hi,
Just wondered have you tried contacting Disability West Lothian at the Ability Centre in Carmondean in Livington. They may be able to point you in the right direction re local skiing groups or other forms of transport to get to Hillend.
As you may have guessed I also live in Livingston and your right public transport is a nightmare if trying to get to anywhere bar the centre of Edinburgh from here.Sometimes a smile is just a mask covering the pain0 -
no i've never tried there before thanks for the tip. I bloody hate trying to get about from here, first bus are a joke, why don't we get lothian buses in this area?0

If I remember right I'm sure the same place can give advice on just about everything to do with Disabilities including benefits, social groups etc and as far I know you don't need to make an appointment to see them you can just walk in or phone them.
I know what your saying about the buses. Mind you my bus stop is too far from house for me to walk to it's just as well I can still drive. Not so good for you not being able to drive.Sometimes a smile is just a mask covering the pain0 -
Im just wondering whether you could get direct payments to pay for a taxi to the ski slope. That is supposed to be the kind of thing it is for, I havnt got a link but maybe someone might come along who knows a bit more about it and whether you would be eligible!0
