Egg card crash?

Am new to this forum. I joined as I didn't know where else to get information! I have an Egg credit card, have always paid off my balance by d/d every month. My card was stopped 2 days ago, I can't get get through to them due to high volume of calls, is this a repeat of Feb 2008? I've had no letter or any kind of warning from them. Does anyone know what's going on please???!!!

Have you gone over your limit?
Have you made any unusual transactions lately (away from your normal merchants/merchant types)?
Do they have your up to date contact details (they may have been trying to contact you by phone or e-mail)?

Try ringing them 'out of hours', but use a geographic number from www.saynoto0870.com (not the expensive 0845 number).

Alternatively, send them a secure message and provide a contact number for them to ring you on.

I've had my card stopped twice.
No unusual spending pattern but I was using it heavily over Xmas and paying for some overseas transcations.

They seem to be a little over-zealous at this.

You need to call them and they will check pending transactions and then sort it out.

Nowhere near my limit and nothing unusual, have checked my account online, all seems fine. My contact details haven't changed and I've been trying to call them for 2 days. I will have a go with the non geographical number, good idea, thanks.
  • Hi there, I also had my card (Egg Money) stopped on Monday (I had been getting the census online and the activity may just have been a bit unusual). They left 4 messages yesterday all with the number showing: 01332633863 is the number for Egg Security

I needed to have my Egg card number, date of birth, address, two letters of mum's maiden name, and address. They they went over the last lot of transactions with me.

I think Egg are very good about this, I don't mind if they are over-zealous (although can see this would be frustrating for people, but I always keep a separate card with me)

Good luck, it was released very quickly and they were charming (as always - I find).

PS - I also checked online and there was nothing there.

Many thanks, just spoke to security, you obviously had a much better experience than me! Card was blocked due to one very small transaction (£6!) not being cleared by security. They didn't call me because apparently they've been very busy, that was their only reason, and i had to demand to speak to a supervisor to even get that answer! Am leaving in disgust, and transferring my balance to a 0% card. Thanks for that number, I hung up after 35 mins trying to get through to the other!
