Anyone recieving higher rate mobility component of DLA automatically qualifies for a Blue Badge (obtainable from your County Council). You dont mention if you get DLA or not, assuming you dont get DLA, you can still apply for a Blue Badge from the County Council, explain your mobility problems on the form they send you - they will make a decision from the information you provide or they may contact your GP - at least that is my understanding of the scheme, although the criteria does vary somewhat between different councils.
  • Hi Jim
It certainy sounds to me that you may qualify - though I am certainly no expert.
Why not apply and see - the cost is minimal - somethng like £2 I think.

This link gives details of how to go about it.

    Good luck

When I applied for mine I had to go see a physiotherapist who assessed me, there are different procedures in different areas.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.

The person who needs the badge applies for it, not the carer, and then uses it in whatever vehicle they need to travel in - family car, taxi, friend's car, etc.

If you don't get DLA and you are under 65, think about applying for it. Contact your council's welfare officers to get help filling in the form.

Ring the Social Care Team at your local council, they will be able to help and advise you, you should be able to find their phone number on your councils website.

My OH gets high rate mobility DLA and got his blue badge automatically, I rang the social care team and they sent a form out and all my OH had to do was tick a box, sign it and enclose a photo with £2.

You may find that your local council lets you contact them online, mine does.
