Please help to find a cdrwdvdr?? 4 old laptop

Hi folks
Can anyone help me suggesting where I can get a cd writer that plays dvds too (non techie here, can you tell?)

My friend has a 4 year old IBM thinkpad i 1200 series, 1161 model. It only came with a cd reader so she is now looking for a cd writer & would like to watch dvds too as she doesn't have a telly.

We really want to know if any newer model thinkpad drives will fit her old laptop, then at least I can look on ebay for models other than the i1200.
