Pet Adoption Scam Warning

I've just read a report on a recent scam going around in the US on the Crimeproofing website and thought it worth a post on here, forewarned and all that.
Pet shipping company Animals Away was featured on the channel 9 News in NYC warning the public about a very popular ad found on free classified ad sites, and newspapers in the U.S and Canada. These ads offer pets for adoption at no cost, all that needs to be done is to pay the shipping charges. A simple Western Union payment at a local Walmart of two hundred dollars or so will get a free pure bred puppy delivered to the door

As I said in my own post this scam has currently moved through Canada into the US so I'm sure its just a matter of time until it arrives here.

Neither of these sites are mine  .

    edit

Frankly, anyone who is stupid enough to think about buying a dog over the internet, and then sending money by transfer without even seeing the animal, deserves everything they get.

They thought someone was giving away a valuable dog for nothing, except transportation costs? Well, their greed got the better of them, didn't it?

The words "simple" and "western Union" go well together.

Actually to all the doubters this is not 'spam' and IS very relevant to the UK,
a friend of mine was nearly caught, they sent pics etc even to his mobile,it was not till the payment details were sent (transfer) that he got suspicious,

    so yes beware

Why was he even thinking about buying an animal he'd never seen, from someone he knew nothing about?

it is a rather long winded scam, but basically,

they advertise various breeds,on free websites, you search for a dog and see their ad and contact them,

they then say yes you can see the dog but not for a week as they are away blah blah, send you loads of lovelly doggie pics get you hooked and keep putting of saying that due to various reasons they will bring the dog to you when they are paid and if you do not like it they will refund yer im sure
