HELP ! Saab 9.3 Convertible or Peugeot 406 coupe??

Need help from people in the know please.

I have the opportunity to buy either of two cars from people i know. Both have been looked after very well.

Saab 9.3 Convertible "S" - 2.0t Petrol - Reg W 2000 - 48,000 miles - 16" Spoke Wheel - Leather seats and many add-on specs. just had 2 x new shock absorber fitted - Price £3.000 with additional cash to be paid for the spider luggage rack to go on the boot. 2 previous lady owners (i know the last one and she drives so so so slowly)...

AGAINST

Peugeot 406 Coupe "Silver Edition" which is the "SE" Spec but part-leather seats - 2.2l Petrol - Reg 53 Sept 2003 - 102,000 miles - 4 x new tyres - New exhaust - Recent Full Service - 12 months tax - MOT September '09 - £2.300. 1 owner from new (mostly motorway and Industrial Estate driving)

Which of the two you good people would go for??? Car would unfortunately have to sleep outside all year round (i guess both cars have been sleeping outside all the time anyway).

HELP ME DECIDE PLEASE.

It it were me I'd have neither of them and look for a tidy older BMW 328i coupe with rear wheel drive.

However, as you've posed the question out of the 2, I say go for the Saab. Less miles and smarter interior. 406 coupe interior is just like any 406, in facts it's a 406 in drag. Like the old Calibra was. Mind you, you could argue the Saab is a Cavalier in drag as essentially it is. Your decision but with less miles and a bit more cred for me, I'd plump for the Saab.

What is 'industrial estate driving' and how does it differ from normal urban driving? ;)
    CHEAP doesn't mean ETHICAL
  • Have you driven them?

For me, neither. Both have poor reliablilty and Saab are particularly high expence maintenance. The Saab is pushing 10 years old and will start to develop expensive faults, and I'd never recommend buying French ever...especially petrol engined French cars  ;)

The above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!
  • I have driven the 406 and will get a chance to drive the Saab too.
  • if you can find a independant Saab specailist near to you, then go for it (saab indys can be an apsolute god send)

ignor the 'vauxhaul in drag' comments - like the 9-5 - they are based on standard GM platforms - Saab engineers do work on the chassis, suspension and steering to give it the saab handling.

the only thing is the 9-3 convertable can be a bit loose - as not much strengthening was done when loping the roof off.

also check out the 93 forum on https://www.saabscene.com give you some ideas on what the common issues are and what to look for

  • Thank you very much all for your replies. So it looks like Saab is the favourite despite its higher price and older age !!??

Stikes me that if you ask on here, you are not sold entirely on either of them? , am I right? So many cars for sale at present you can afford to be choosy.

I would have said "buy the one you want" if not for the above.

Ps ignore the revs comments about french cars, one of his ancesters fell out with Napoleon you know:rolleyes:
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
