JCS1 - thank you. We will explain to the OR and ask if we could possibly be allowed to stay in the house as long as possible and at least until she has finished all of the treatment that is available to her. She is on this double dose chemo until end May then they can try two other kinds but not sure if they will do it straight away or wait for it to grow back (only part of it is removed, the roots can never be removed as they spread into the brain like spiders legs). There are a very few survivors of this horrible illness and I have managed to find a few people across in US that are still going ten years after diagnosis so there is always hope.
To be honest it has made me look at life in a whole different perspective - we have always worked hard to get by but there are times when even that has to take a back seat. My husband has got arthritis of the spine and is in agony sometimes but I know he would be miserable not working but I am sure he will find a job working for someone else eventually.something missing0 -
Hi Claire..you sound so much more positive than earlier...I hope that knowing others are in same boat / been there etc has really helped.
In terms of your options re future employment...you can still trade as a sole trader after BR. Obviously its tough with no overdraft/credit etc but you will always have that option if starting over appealled to you both.
Just a thought,

Hi Claire, have just read through your thread and although I have no useful advice to add I just wanted to say that I am mightily impressed with how strong you sound considering what you are going through.
To be honest your situation has helped me to get my own into perspective, it's only money that I've got to worry about and it could be so much worse, so thank you for posting.
I am sure you will make the right decisions for you and am positive that whatever you decide you will get lots of help on here.
Good luck.0 -

Hi claire,
so very sorry to hear about your situation. But welcome to a very supportive and friendly forum. We are going through probs and people on here have been wonderful.
We are looking for rented accom with 5 dogs and it is possible so dont give up hope on finding somewhere.
Im not sure if anyone else has said it but my advice would be your local Citizens Advice Bureau. They can help to make sure you are getting:
- All your benefits; carers allowance, DLA etc - they even help you write the forms to ensure you are getting the right/best deal
- Help with advice on letting agents
- From our advice, their Debt/Bankruptcy advice has been excellent. They have ordered the necessary forms for us and are helping us to fill them in.
I have some medical probs and it just seems that although you might be there talking to them about medical probs, they put you onto a colleague who specialises in medical claims/matters etc...
I really would give them a call. Or you can pop in, fill in a quick form and have an impromptu chat. They will then make apts for you with the appropriate colleague.
Sorry if you've already tried this or I am repeating the same advice from others, but do.
I cant confirm what their advice is like for Business bankruptcy but I bet they know someone in your area who would be able to advise you, if they are not able to help.
And this is all for free. We were even lucky enough to be given access to financial advice from a company that would have charged us a fortune had we not gone through the CAB.
Good luck Claire and sending supportive thoughts your way.

Hi everyone. We have contacted the estate agent that we bought our house from in May 2004 and they said the prices haven't dropped below the value in 2004 so that would mean the property is worth £135k. This would mean we are only just insolvent - still working on exact figures.
Someone has told us to contact a company called Payplan in case there is any way we could not go BR and keep the houseto be close to our daughter. This is our main priority - to stay in the house as long as possible. At the moment we think we have more chance of staying in house if we go BR (hoping OR will give us some breathing space in the circumstances) than if we tried to sort it all out ourselves as we would have to put house up for sale immediately.
Any advice would be gratefully received. We still have apt for court on Wednesday but could postpone this - only thing is it prolongs the stress of having creditors chasing us etc.something missing0 -

clairev - Hi and Welcome Back!
Call either Payplan, CCCS or National Debtline - they will all give you advice and all can help you with a DMP if that is the route you are thinking of taking.
The numbers are all at the bottom of dalip's posts or they are in a sticky at the top of the board page.
Good Luck with whatever you decide to do.

mmmm.... think what I need to know is it possible to get at IVA if you are technically insolvent. Also I presume it only worth looking into if my husband found a job with a decent wage pretty quickly? Still thinking it would be less stress all round to go BR but if there is any possibility of us not losing house then we have to look into it.something missing0

Hi Claire
I would get an independant valuation on your property and ask the estate agent for a realistic price for a sure sale (if there is such a thing these days!) I think its a bit offhand to say house prices same as in 2004 as they are falling so sharply - after all it is only worth what someone will pay for it!
If you then have less than £1000 equity or are in negative equity then it is unlikely for the house to be sold.
