have you tried it in all of the USB sockets on the PC?

do you have another USB cable?

No, I haven't tried any other sockets and, no, I don't have another USB cable but, if that's possibly the cause, I'll of course get another one to try.

When I installed the new printer, I used the USB cable from my previous printer, disconnecting it only from the old printer, not the PC. I simply reconnected the free end when 'connect cable' was shown in the installation sequence. Should I have disconnected/reconnected the PC end as well? Is it conceivable that this old USB cable is not suitable for my new printer, ie are there cables and cables? (Apologies for these simple questions, but I'm not an expert)
  • All you have to do is to go into the computer BIOS, set the first boot device to CDROM or hard drive and remove USB from the boot options.

I sometimes have the same problem with external disc drives.
Any USB cable should do - £1 shops sell them sometimes.
Trying other USB sockets is worth a try, ones on the front and back if it's a desktop.
