is there any come back with ebay (car died)

had a car for christmas from my boyfriend, which he bought on ebay, A very nice s reg ford cougar. It has a full service history with 112,000 miles on clock.

Have not driven it much as it had taken me a bit of time to get used to it from my very very old metro. Have done max 200 miles and on sunday the car made some very bad noises. Have had it towed to local ford gargage who tell me the pistons have gone and need a new engine. We knew it was due for the timing chain to be done , but they told me at the garage it has nothing to do with that, its just on of those things. Not very happy

You are unlikely to have any comeback unless you bought from a trader with a warranty.

Buying a car from ebay is like buying a car from a guy selling a private car on his drive, as soon as you have agreed the price and have driven it away it is yours.

yep as soolin says unfortunatly u have no legal comeback in this case as its a sale between 2 private individuals.its the chance u take im afraid,u may have just been unlucky or the seller may have known it was on the way out and disguised it just enough to sell it on:mad: .

Sold as seen is a very popular phrase used when dealing with used cars, I'm afraid. It's a case of bite the bullet, but do try getting other garages to look at it and get plenty of quotes.
I'm back after a break :money:

ask the seller nice like, they may be genuine and very helpful in indicating reasons of sale / service history, etc

chances are they probably pulled a fast one, caveat empor i'm afraid,
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

has the seller been selling other cars? only a long shot, but if he has then you could perhaps go down the trading standards route as all trade sellers must give a warranty with a car - irrespective of what they say or have written down.

as i said just a long shot but check out what other items hes been selling...

i brought a nova 2 years ago for £200 the cam belt went on it so i stuck it on ebay as it was and sold it for £225 very happy indeed with that so that may be an option for you to look at depends on how much you paid in the 1st place for it

I'm no mechanic, but pistons do not just 'go'. Piston rings or cylinder bores can wear, but they do so very slowly and any symptoms develop over a long period of time. I'd seek a fuller explanantion.
