Problem with Sky Digibox

When I try to turn on my Sky Digibox it does not come on-the red light does not turn to green. I have tried it with the remote control and manually but nothing happens.

Does this mean the Digibox is knackered? If so can anyone advise if it is best to get a new box via Sky or go to a TV repair shop and get them to supply and fit a new box?

Thanks
Val :)

If you've not switched off at the mains do that first.

As for buying a new one, ebay is cheap and you just plug it in and activate your card to the box.

    No necessarily broken

If you do a search on the net you will find a number of solutions.

My Sky+ box did this last week and I found a solution online - sorry didn't keep a note of it
  • Try a software download.

Hold the backup button in on the box & don't let it go. Turn the box off & then onn again, all the lights on the box should light up & there should be a message on your screen saying download in progress please allow 10 mins.
At this point you can remove your finger from the backup button.

if this doesn't work then in my opinion the box is faulty. HTH

On quite a few occasions my sky box has died. Each time I've phoned up their helpline, gone through their reset script (switch off, remove cables etc), and when this hasn't worked they've offered to send out an engineer for £65. I've then told them I'm not interested and asked them to cancel my subscription. They've then offered to do it for free because of my 'good custom' (on a couple of times they've first offered half price, but I held on and got it for free).

This obviously only works if you are outside the contract period.

This is a bit risky though, as everytime I do it I'm expecting them to just cancel the service. Then I would be in trouble with the rest of the family.

How is a Sky receiver that is stuck in standby mode supposed to receive a software download?

To the OP, get a second hand Sky Receiver from eBay or car boot sale, chances are yours is dead.

Our sky+ box was doing this regularly for a few months. We had to turn it off at the wall for a few minutes and all was ok once switched back on again.
