it is generally considered that the pioneer plasmas are the best available - but they are out of your budget. You may want to see if you can find one of the previous models as old stock somewhere - if you compare a cheaper model with a pioneer side by side, you can see a huge difference in quality of colours (apparently the secret is to see how black the blacks are on the screen). Panasonic are also consdiered very good.

I just ordered the Panasonic TH-37PX8BA 37" from Amazon for £419.99 delivered.. It is HD and built in freeview, so seemed like a good price for a decent brand plasma. Couldnt find many reviews, but I havent seen a rubbish Panasonic yet, so it should be quite decent.
