  • I'm on the hunt for a 32" at the moment, so have been mostly frequenting the RicherSounds website and also PC retailers like dabs, misco and ebuyer. Stocks of branded 32"s seem to be low at the moment, though...not sure about 40+. Good offers on TVs generally get posted quite quickly on hotukdeals website, so I keep an eye on that too. I'd avoid tesco direct, they have hiked their LCD prices up massively since new year.

go on offer of the day.co.uk website (no spaces as MSE doesn't like it's link) and check out their tv's listed by price

  • There's a 37 inch LCD Grundig on the Tesco website just now which my dad is thinking of getting and its about 399, a good price for a decent make when some of them can be way up to 800 quid for the same size. It also has freeview built in.

I got my telly from Asda a year ago and am very pleased with it, its a Panasonic LCD with freeview. I bought a Bush LCD 3 years ago from Argos and the pixels started dying, would never buy that brand again as it lasted less than 2 years. Picture quality on Panasonic is very good in comparison. I could have bought a bigger screen (32) with a less well known brand for the same price but opted for the smaller screen(27) but a well known brand.
  • ? what different between LCD or HDTV?

LCD is a type of tv (Liquid Crystal Display), Plasma is the other main type (CRT is the old big box type tvs). HDTV stands for high definition tv and this is a technology incorporated into modern day tvs (HD ready) for people to watch a much better quality broadcast (if the channel is an HD channel or through BluRay DVD's)

Grundig and Bush are the same company, they are same items with different badges ;)

Over on HDUK there's a Panasonic 37" TH37PX7B HD Ready with Freeview Plasma TV, sounds like bargain.

I would have a look at the Sony 40w4000, it uses the Bravia 2 technology. Richersounds has it for £729, got 5 stars from What HiFi and until the 40w4500 came out was one of the best LCD's to buy. It has got some great reviews. I am currently saving for the 4500 as I want the 100hz motionflow capability.
Please remember other opinions are available.

Go for the panny plasma 37tx80b which is currently selling in comets for £499 - it beat all the other plasmas and lcd upto twice its price.
