Now that rates are heading towards zero I am thinking of going down to the dole office or whatever it is called now and registering as wanting a job.
Don't get so grumpy. Your 0% will seem brilliant once negative inflation really kicks in.
House prices alone lost tens of thousands in 2008. Money is getting scarce, and so money becomes more valuable.
Even quantative easing is nothing to worry about with the £$trillions in "investments" - including many toxic ones - which were once real, being deflated in to next to nothing.0 -
Anyone else in this trap?
If you are getting contribution based JSA, income you have
from an occupational or personal pension of over £50 a week
is deducted from the amount of your JSA, e.g. if your pension
is £55.00 a week then £5.00 is deducted from your benefit
each week.
All I ever got was boring hassle about my job application plan, but no helpful suggestions.0 -

Yep, that would be me, though at the moment, don't need need to take a job away from someone more needy or deserving.
That might change when my fixed rate savings stop paying 'old style' interest at the end of the year, but a year is a long time in this economy! 0 -
Thanks for the informative replies perhaps the first time I went into a savings institution they should have had a warning poster saying " saving can seriously affect any handouts from HMG".0

I posted a question on the benefits board last week asking if there was any good reason why I should sign on. If there was something magical that I didn't know about. Because of my savings I can't get dole money, but I wondered if there was something else, some magical passport to goodies.... they said it would be a useless form-filling exercise for me.
Maybe worth investing some of your savings into a pension plan. Funds held in pensions don't count as savings. Then you could claim some dole money perhaps?0 -

sounds familiar here as well...that probably means if I sign on for jobseekers...I'll owe them....lol....think I'll just stay retired at the moment unless theres something for over fifties....lolI'm now a retired teacher... hooray ...:j
Those who can do, those who can't, come to me for lessons:cool:0 -

Ah but if you were creating and spending an extra 55 GBP per week, the fractional banking system would multiply that up to 400 GBP and you could put a whole extra needy and deserving person back to work?!?
Or have I missed something somewhere?.
Harry.
PS Come to think of it, I spent all morning playing unpaid tax collector on behalf of a relative. The annoying thing is that if anything the taxman owes him a very small amount of tax, not vice versa.
It makes you wonder just how many people are employed by the government doing non jobs "making bricks without straw" just to massage the unemployment figures. Nothing much has changed since ancient Egypt !
What we need is people employed doing REAL jobs, preferably producing something that can be exported.0
