Hello do AMD CPUs have Compatibility Issues running in XP and Vista operating system enviroments?
Basically are there known issues with software programs running a computer with an AMD chip?
Thanks
Samantha

I cant recall specifics, but I know there HAVE been some. But theyre 'fixed' through updates anyways
Why?:idea:0 -
No more than Intel processors, and usually its not anything you'll notice anyway.

AMD processors should run everything just fine in XP and Vista, they also run Linux great.0

haven't personally heard of any for many many years but if it where to crop up i'm pretty sure it would be sorted out fairly rapidly
theres too much money in the windows market to ignore it.click here to achieve nothing!0 -

Why?
Because Lidl have AMD laptops for sales always like to do my research before I part
wuth my cash I know I have 28 days trial period
They have the Targa Traveller 1591 A M D CPU Price £599.00 with 3 years gaurantee.
https://www.targa.co.uk
I have never had A M D computer how do these compare to whats out there currently.
I would ideally prefer the Targa Traveller 1534 Intel CPU
the guy in Lidl said its never been featured as yet I will have to check their German Targa Headquarters
I do not know the price on this because I am told its not currently available but if I had to buy the same in the UK what sort of price would I be looking at remember the 3 year warranty as well.
How much do full stand alone XP cost currently and would it invalidate warranty if I
formatted Vista and installed that insread would it be possible would I have problems with drivers etc.

I'm a long time AMD Die-hard...it's true that ONCE there were issues, back in the day of the AMD/NexGen 4x86/5x86, but those are long gone now.
AMD Duron/Athlon/Sempron/Athlon64/X2/Opteron/PhenomX3/X4 will work as flawlessly as an Intel unit. I have an AMD Athlon64 dual core PC, running 64 bit Linux and Windows XP/Windows 7 in virtual hardware - never given issue. Missus has an AMD dualcore laptop with the same setup.
To the view of the operating system and programs, they work in the same way - the differences in architecture internally don't affect the software, just the way the CPU handles the chunks of data.
When all's said and done, ANY new processor will be hassle free and fairly pokey.
The cpu in that laptop you linked to is an Athlon64X2@1.9Ghz - we have several laptops at work with that chip, and it's the same one as in the Missus machine, and one lower than my desktop. It'll run anything you throw at it, pretty much. I hammer mine daily and it's never had problems.
I have to query - why would you want Vista over XP? We always remove Vista and downgrade here. Even Microsoft appear to be tryng to brush Vista under the carpet now and are saying "Keep XP for now, wait for Windows 7" (and to be fair, Windows 7 makes Vista look a bit silly and clunky..we're reviewing it for our new facility)
I can't see Vista having issues if you did install it...there are more drivers out there now. Just bear in mind they might frown upon it if you have a service call, as you're not running the OS they intended.
Don't worry about it, in a nutshell - it'll work just as well regardless of who makes the CPU. My colleague has an Intel dualcore PC in the office, I have an AMD (I specified it, heh)..we both do the same jobs on them, with the same loads - no problems.
EDIT: Oh, wait...were you asking about REMOVING Vista and putting XP on instead? Still possible, but I can't say as to prices..we're covered by a huge volume license here which is why we can do it.0 -
I used AMDs for a long time...though recently went (almost) all intel (1 amd box left plugged in)
You should be absolutely fine with an AMD based PC.
As to removing vista to install XP...not a bad idea when vista just came out and was quite rubbish...but now?? why bother?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
I always used AMD CPUs until recently. I prefer the recent Intel chips over AMD now but for general use there is absolutely nothing wrong with an AMD CPU.
Also I would stick with Vista rather than XP. I didn't even find it particularly rubbish when it came out but now it is a decent, stable OS.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
