Hello, Im after a bit of advice and im hoping someone here can help
Background : we were bought a new flat screen Sony TV about 3 months ago with built in freeview but where we live we can't get freeview. So in November we had FreeSat from Sky installed. I think this is great and is so much better than just channels 1 to 4 that we used to get. However as everything is coming in on the AV1 channel we can only record the same channel as we're watching - which isn't much good!
I was hoping there may be a way of watching and recording more. Ive had a look on the Sky website and the first thing is Sky+. They are currently doing a Sky+ box for £99 but i dont think having freesat qualifys for this offer so we are more likely looking at about £260. Ive also had a look around Comet and notice that they do HD Hard Drive DVD recorders for about the same money - is this just the same as a Sky+ box but with a dvd recorder included ??
So my question is to be able to record and watch more than 1 channel what would be the best peice of equipment ??
Thanks in advance, all advice greatly appreciated

Basically you're options are to either:
1 - Stick with sky and pay them the money for a Sky+ box. It's worth noting that there's an ongoing £10 a month charge for the service which is waived if you subscribe to one of their packages at around £20 per month. It's worth noting that the normal Sky+ box is standard definition (ie not High Def or HD)
2 - You can also get a freesat high def box which is not associated with Sky+ service. They can come either with or without a hard disk (to allow recording of up to 2 channels like Sky+ but do not have a monthly charge. I think they cost around £200-£300, probably closer to the latter. There will also be an installation charge

Thanks for the help Fox.
Hmm both seem quite costly options.
Will have to have a little think and decide if its really worth the money.

You may need additonal equipment added to your sky dish in order to use PVR functions (watch and record at the same time). Freesat is the cheapest option. You could also recieve HD for free. A freesat HD PVR will pay for itelf in 10-15 months.Mortgage £120K, monthly overpayment £600, 18 years and £100K saved0
