How do I open this file....

My daughter did a flash animation as part of a school project. I have just had to get a new PC because the other one was about to die and backed up everything we needed to keep. The only problem is all thats left of her work is the .fla file, I have had loads of trouble trying to open it in adobe flash/shockwave (keeps giving me an update but won't actually open anything) so does anyone know of another FREE prog I can use? Have downloaded a few but nowt works!

Should open in Flash, what version do you have.

if she's done it as FLA, she should be able to take it back to school and get Flash to export it as an SWF, which will play fine. We use it here and get the kids to export like that.

An FLA file is a Flash source file that contains all the animation and graphics. To manage this file you should have Macromedia Flash MX 6 or higher installed on your computer.

To open an FLA file in Macromedia Flash editor you should select "File/Open" from the top menu and browse to the location of your FLA file.
A simpler way to open your file is just to drag and drop it from your file browser to your Macromedia Flash editor window. Also,
if FLA files on your computer are based on the Macromedia Flash software, you can just double click it in your file browser and this file will be opened and ready to use.

Note: If you see the "Missing Font Warning" alert message, it means that you have not installed all the fonts included in the package.
