Yes, AVG is very good.
I also do an online scan with http://housecall.trendmicro.com/. its very thorough and it feels good to double check.:smileyhea "here, hare, here" :smileyhea0 -
Avg is brilliant, with automatic downloads every 2 weeks.
however, it is an anti-virus software tool and does not catch everything, particularly spyware that slows down your machine. spybot is pretty good for a free tool in getting rid of unwanted intruders. http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
If you feel your pc is saved, you can always donate to the guy who invented it.
I remember that there was a very good thread about 4 weeks ago that listed all the decent protective software for your pc, but i can't for the life of me, think who it was that started it or even what the title was. you might want to undertake a search or maybe someone else remembers?I have gained from advice as well as bargains here, so if I can help in any way, I am only too pleased to do so and appreciate your thanks.0 -
I use panda as my permenant virus protection and after using Norton i find it much better. Not had any problems with it.
They also offer a free online scan:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm
It scans, disinfects and eliminates viruses from all parts of your system, hard disks, compressed files and all your e-mail. It's updated every day too.
I have links to the free online scan on all of my
websites so that people can find it easily.
Combined with spybot :
http://www.spybot.info/en/index.html
and Ad-aware (free version from download.com):
http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html
to check and remove spyware, malware, trojans, dailers etc you have lurking on your system, you have a pretty good set up for free ;D

magoogy Avg is in my opinion the best anti-virus, however it sounds as though what is happening is that these virus's are going into your system restore, so it doesn't matter how many times you scan your system with anti virus software once the virus is sitting in your system restore files it stays there.Your virus software is detecting it but not removing it. The only way to shift it ( assuming your on windows XP ) is this,
1, go to start - control panel
2, select system
3, click on the system restore tab
4, check the turn off system restore box
a prompt will ask if you really want to turn off system restore, click yes. The little egg timer will appear for a minute or so. When it goes scan your PC again and you will find your virus's have gone.
Now go back to start - control panel - system - system restore and check the box to turn system restore back on. The egg timer will run for a minute again and all will be fine...........................hopefully.
Next go to start - help & support, go to your system restore page and create a new restore point.
if you need any help PM me.
Good luck!!
andy.
P.s. You might want to consider a firewall, it is a must if you have a broadband connection.

AVG is ok , but is not as good as Avast anti virus, free, good updates, and it detects viruses, i used avg for over a year until some viruses got through, i switched to avast, and no problems since https://www.avast.com0
