Virgin - Their in for it.

Hi folks,

I'm so angry I can't leave it until the morning, story goes like this...

Transfered funds (3k approx) to a Virgin One (i think) 15 mnth interest free deal..

All fine paying £170 odd a month never defaulted, anyway looked at my statement and they have kindly reduced the payment to £25:mad:

I'm not te best with paperwork but dug out a unopened letter from them dated October saying "We have conducted a review of your Virgin CC Acount and to ensure that your minimum payment continues to be met each month, thereby avoiding default charges, we are amending your Direct Debit from the fixed amount you previously agreed"

It goes on to say I don't need to do anything as its automatic from December:confused:

Are they ************ mad, if I wanted to change the DD, guess what I'm perfectly capable to do it myself, now it goes on to say if I wanted it increased each month I would need to go into a bank etc

Holy mother of Haddock I'm fuming, so now from thinking everything is cushty they've now stitched me up because I may well fall behind and go into the 16 month and charged intereset.

Which i'm sure is the only reason they do this, dispicable.

Yes i should of acted on the letter but i've been away and is the first chance to look at it.

What right to they have to change a DD without consent, nothing in writing nor verbally...

Has anyone got any tips when I speak to these monkeys, I wil go staright to the manager, as it happens I have Bransons home address (on work database) i'm tempted to write formally to him asking him why he felt my account needed reviewing, 11 months payed up in full with no problems and they reduce from £170 to £25

Baffled..........HELP!

Why dont you just overpay the 2nd payment by £145 then amend your DD to £170 you will be back on track.
  • Granted it's not all that hard to make a payment but to be fair I shouldn't have to!

Haven't really got time to work out how much i'm down, recalculate then take the higher repayments..again granted I should have the extra funds in the bank but I haven't, last got paid 15th Dec, next pay is Jan 30th and I am skint

    Ta for reply mate..

set up a regular payment on your internet banking - you won;t have to go into the bank then

wait until the end of your interest free period when they bump the interest to 34% - thats when the fun begins!

Isn't it as simple as (£170 - £25) x number of payments made so far?

You'd have been even more skint if you'd paid the extra £145/£290 under the old DD wouldn't you?

Sounds like they've done you a favour!
  • to be fair you acknowledge they wrote and told you... they cant be expected to know you were away for nearly 3 months and not read the letter.

It will have been a machine who "reviewed" your account and they have to cater for everyone. There will have been people whose Fixed payment would not have covered the minumum payment had they maxed out their limit (not sure if that applies here?)..

Yes the "machine" could be modded to look for that but hey.

You can imagine the threads on here in that scenario!
  • Yeah I've had this too on minimum payments. THEN they said they've reviewed my account and putting the interest up from 17% to 33%. I'd read elsewhere that you can ask to stay on the interest rate you're on to pay it off ,and not use the card anymore.
Rang MBNA twice , got nowhere so escalated to FSA (this costs MBNA /virgin about £360! so there fault!)
Phone call tonight Er. if you dont use your card anymore you can stay on same rate until its paid off!.

So i'm happy and they are down £360 another result!

This has really cheesed me off.........

You don't read your post yet you blaim the company for your failings.

You refer to the staff as "monkeys" but you haven't even contacted them to gain an informed opinion.

And then.... to top it all.... you want to abuse privileged information you have obtained via your work (Branson's address) for personal use!

Grow up, take some personal responsibility for your own screw up, and take it on the chin.

By the way, it's "they're" as is "they are" and not "their" which usually indicates an ownership of something. I don't normally care about correcting people but you've got my goat so I couldn't help myself:rotfl: .

I'm sorry, who are you blaming here?
