Write Off but have only 3rd Party-How to Sell Damaged Repairables?

So i tried to cut corner with insurance, but i hit my car and to get it fixed will cost over 1.5k.
Now i am thinking of cutting my loses and selling as a damaged repairable. Anyone any experience of this?

Its a 2001 2.0 litre Focus 2 Door ESP with about 80k on the clock. The damage is prob around 500 quids worth but the airbags deployed so thats a major pain to fix and i reckon labour would cost abut 1k on this.

I'm thinking if i get rid for about 800 and factor in the 400 quid i've saved not having fully comp for 2 years and the 400 quid petrol i will save from not having a motor until the summer (i dont drive to work so can do without one) and the 2-300 excess i would have paid I'm only really out of pocket by about 600 quid as im sure this car would only get about 2.5k if i were to sell this summer........i know its money down the drain but could have been so much worse

So who has sold a damaged repairable Do i need any paper work to prove its a certain level of "write off"?

  • Hi there

As you a proposing a private sale of the vehicle, you need no evidence of the repairable nature of the car. When the airbag deploys, you end up having to replace the entire dash and that will cost an awful lot more than £1,000 and I think you will be lucky to get more than about £200 for the car in its damaged state.
In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move.

hmmmm i've head this. i've seen airbag kits for the car on ebay for about 120ish. im really hoping the car is worth more than 200 quid..........if so its a steal for someone who can replace the airbags. dash looks fine and im sure a dash could be picked up on ebay for 100 quid or so.

    Any other opinions?

doubt few people would want a dodgy ebay job being done on the airbags when it could mean life/death.
