Henry hoover help.

My "Henry" stopped working and I changed the fuse and switched it back on. A spark was seen at the switch and it blew the fuse again.
Have I killed him??
Can this be "hot wired" to make sure it is just the switch and not the motor??
If so how easy is it??
I have an electrician friend who maybe could do this and if it's only the switch it could be cheaply repaired and "Henry" could maybe be brought back from the brink.

No, don't wire the switch, that's nuts! The fuse is there for a reason, to keep you safe.
If it keeps blowing it means there's an electrical problem.
It could be that the motor brushes are completely worn out, the brush dust could be causing the shorting. New brushes will cost less than a tenner.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Thanks, there is a smell from the switch (burning smell) when my hubby opened it up.
What's the best way of checking this out, I don't really want to spend too much, I would rather put the money to a new henry??
How can I determine if it is just the switch??

Have you tried apologising to Henry for calling him Hoover? I think you hurt his feelings
You could probably source a new switch and fit it yourself...but if it's the motor gone your wasting your money. Any obvious loose connections in the cable (especially where cable enters the cleaner?)
Andy
That's what I/we were thinking, a switch is pretty cheap.
No obvious signs of cable problems - just the switch inside smells iffy.

By the way, is it under warranty still?
Andy
No, it's over 3 years old.
Really just want to find out if it is the switch, an easy fix.

Good evening: We love our Henry (fondly known to us as Hank;)) He's worked eagerly throughout 3 house renovations as well as numerous bathroom and central heating installations with a bit of servicing along the way.. This website has an excellent forum, sells spares and could help you find a way to get Henry back on the mend.

Any success on this Lynsey?
I have just had exactly the same experience with my 8 year old Dyson...
Is it worth repairing or should I just bite the dust and buy a new one.:D?I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -

Hi All, If replacing your vacuum cleaner it might be worth having a look at Miele, they make superb cleaners that really cost far less than they should! Miele treat their vacuum cleaners as lost leaders, they think if you like one of them then you might buy one of their washing machines when your old one needs replacing etc.! At the moment Miele have an offer on all their cleaners, buy a proper 10 year guarantee for just £30.0

I think I'll buy a new one.
If OH gets round to fixing it when he gets back, it can become the garage hoover (for dirty duty). This one has seen an extension to the house and might have had more dust than it likes.I lost my job as a cricket commentator for saying “I don’t want to bore you with the details”.Milton Jones0 -
NOOOOOO ! You can get new brushes for a few quid. Most industrial machine suppliers sell other numatic machines so can supply and fit for a lot less. thats all that wears out on these. DIY is possible with a bit of patience0
