Use ImgBurn to create a Img file of the DVD then use it to burn it back onto a blank one http://www.filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

If the discs are copy protected (Which im assuming they are), that wouldnt work.
And we're not supposed to talk about illegal copying anyways........

  • if you were making a backup copy for yourself, then I'd suggest dvdshrink
If the disk is for someone else, I couldn't possibly comment as that would be wrong!

Sorry i fought they where discs the person recorded on there camera. But as you say it won't work anyway if there not.
  • tried the DVDshrink software but still failing .

Seemed that it took about 8hours to downoad a concert ... it's sitting on my c drive as about 8 different VTS Vob filers ?.. and when i play them there's the pictures but no sound .

Also haven't got as far as trying to copy on to a blank dvd yet .

Also tried getting the audio onto my itunes/ipod via dvd videosoft ... and it just takes it as the whole 2 hour concert as one track .. no seperation .

    HELP !!
  • the audio, when ripped from the A/V source, will be 1 track..if you want breaks, put them in!

how do you know dvdshrink is failing if you haven't burnt a disk? dvdshrink should automatically burn the results to disk, saving you the bother of mucking it up

  • i'm useless with anything techie .. so please be patient !! .

Haven't seen anything that is getting dvdshrink "automatically burning to disk ".. no idea about that.

"breaks .. put them in" ... how do i do that ? .

and "the audio, when ripped from the A/V source, will be 1 track" .. i'm sorry that means nothing to me and/or tells me what i do to get the audio on the video playback

One other thought .. rather than using my pc .. is there any dvd machine type machine that is available that will easily do dvd and cd audio copies easier ?
  • there are divx dvd players (around £30+) which would allow you to play most downloaded videos without any conversion...just copy the avi (film) file to a disk (or memory stick) and play.
dvd or audio cd copies are easy on a PC...but you don't have a source DVD, you have a downloaded avi file.
putting in the breaks...whatever file you have on your ipod, use a program called audacity to split the file into seperate tracks (on a PC)...fairly easy...but very tedious (especially with lots of crowd noise),

  • problem with dvd shrink ......

got to grips with this thanks particularly to the help from "DatabaseError" ... but hit a problem .

Getting an " error with I/O device " message when trying to copy a dvd .
Checked on Google .. and this is the standard help .... (First Question would be .. Is this correct solution ?? ) ...

    Go to Start
    2. Right click My Computer
    3. Select Manage from the resulting menu
    4. In the Computer Management window, select Device Manager
    5. In the right pane, click to expand IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
    6. Identify your CD/DVD drive in the expanded menu and right click the appropriate drive
    7. Select Properties
    8. In the Properties windows, click the Advanced Settings tab
    9. In the Transfer Mode box that represents your CD/DVD drive (typically Device 1), open the drop down menu and select PIO Only
    10. Click OK and exit all windows.

If this does not resolve your issue, then you will need to go back using the above procedure and change the Device 1 in step #9 back to "DMA if available". Then, change Device 0 to "PIO Only" in the Transfer Mode box.

    Device 0: Primary IDE Channel
    Device 1: Secondary IDE Channel

    ************
I get to number 5 .. but then when for number 6 it says "identify drive" .. i've got a choice of six ....
Intel ich 9 2 port serial ata.......
    intel ich9 4 part serial ata ......
    primary ide channel
    primary ide channel
    secondary ide channel
    secondary ide channel .

    which do i use ???

    hope it makes sense

    thanks

You mean when recording to a dvd? Then either your dvd needs a firmware update or your discs are not compatible with the drive
