Hi. My husband was made redundant mid Nov, and he can sign on. He gets the contributions based rates (£60.50 per week), not the higher means tested rates as I am in full time employment.
We also rang the tax credit people to tell them about change in circs and they increased our tax credits a bit too.
So perhaps it's worth asking again if you can sign on?

Why were you told you can't claim JSA? I thought that you could get six months non means tested as long as you had the right amount of NI credits in the previous couple of years.
i have only ever paid class 2 or 4 ni so bit stuffed

    Hi

Who tld you you cannot sign on?

Re the dairy thing, so am I and all my siblings. Actually it is the luxery items that we cannot eat, like dairy ice-cream and desserts. We can eat crap soft ice-cream made with vegetable fat.

It is about going into the supermarket and reading the ingredicents lists. I bet there is a web-site with whole lists of packaged food that is OK.

if you have been bamboozled into buying special stuff for him, stop. Ok, you might want soya milk, but otherwise, stop.

If you make food from scratch, you control the ingredients, so you can make surre you only have (safe) margerine or oil or that you use soya milk. But you can talk that through later.

Right now, call a debt charity line and get this signing -on business sorted out. That is the absolute priority.

we have read so many packages its unbelievable lol got told by job centre today i cant sign on as cant claim a penny im in contact with cab so hope they can help more fri? how would it go against me if i can only pay back a very small amount to each company?? wouldnt it be easyer to go bankrupt?? so lost at mo and will my house get taken away even if in negative equity?

I think the problem is that you are talking about claiming and we are talking about signing on. They are two different things.

You may not be able to claim any benefit but you can sign on. Just most of the time people cannot be bothered signing on if they no benefits. You get the mortgage paid (we hope).

have you tried the benefits board on here.

Other insurance......................... 50 for mortgage and unemployment payment protections but cant claim them as ive been told i cant sign on

You need to get this sorted out- take the paperwork and smallprint with you to CAB for advice. Either they should pay out or if you are not eligible you would probably not be eligible in any circumstances and need to stop paying and start seeing if you can reclaim all the premiums you have paid and claim misselling if anyone advised you to take this out.

My family has far too many food problems, but it can all be done quite cheaply. Especially at the moment when you should have a lot of time to cook!
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.
