Thanks, don't know if I feel better or worse about it now, there were 4 winners in that one thread, but there were 500 prizes, not 150 as I thought.Luck is believing you’re lucky – Tennessee Williams

This thread seems to be getting away from the original idea I suggested/ postal comps etc.
Can we try and just keep it for that only and save the chat for where it should be posted.
This is only a suggestion so please don't follow it up with why's & wherefores as it is only a polite suggestion.

The Lucozade comp was posted in the main board - it received replies before being put into the postal thread which is why there is some discussion in there....
comperkings thread was posted on the main board before being put in here ...
Lots of love

Hi,
Apologies if this thread is in th e wrong section.
I notice a lot of competitons ask for name, address, telephone, D.O.B, etc.
With the rise of ID theft how safe is it to give these dertails to random web sites? Just with these details are they able scam in any way?
Thanks.

Can anyone confirm whether this comp:
http://www.cinemas-online.co.uk/website/competition.phtml?comp=warlordsdvd&page=
i.e. cinemas online
is the same as this one:
http://www.reelcinemas.co.uk/website.php?comp=warlordsdvd&page=competition
reel cinemas
I don't want to dupe a comp

Hi
It is in the wrong place and I'll ask a BG to move it to the Discussion thread, but, in the meantime, this is what Velvet Glove's Comping Guide says -
8 I’m worried about identity theft from giving out my personal details to enter comps, what do you suggest?
Firstly, don’t use the same password / username for a comp website as any of your financial services sites, like your internet banking site, etc. Secondly, I would run a mile from any comp that asked for my bank details!
Some MSE Compers make a deliberate change to their date of birth, (For Example, instead of May they use June as their month of birth), but at the end of the day you need to decide if you want to ‘risk’ it.
Here in the Comping Corner of MSE, we all look out for each other & if anyone has an idea that a site or comp isn’t legitimate then they will usually post on the thread & then the investigative members really start to look into the background of the site, who owns it, when it was set up etc. Obviously there is no guarantee that a comp isn’t being run simply to harvest personal details, however, there are some very eagle eyed members on here & let’s face it you risk credit / debit card fraud whenever you use your card in a petrol station or a restaurant nowadays.
Finally, if you are in any doubt as to the legitimacy of a particular comp then for your own peace of mind don’t enter it. There are hundreds of comps posted on this site every day so missing the odd few won’t make a big difference in the grand scheme of things, but may help you rest easier.
(Velvet Glove's Guide is a sticky on the first page of the forum and is well worth reading. Lots of info about the forum and comps)
