Can't seem to change my Egg Money PIN - and advice?

I have a new Egg Money card. I got the PIN number online and it says I can change the PIN at "most" ATM machines.
I took the card to a general Link machine which said "you cannot use this type of card in this machine" as soon as I put it in. So I phoned up Egg to ask which ATMs I can change the pin and they didn't seem to have a clue. They only suggested taking it to one of the big bank's ATMs.
So I took it to a Nationwide. This time it accepted the card and had the Change PIN option, so I tried to change it and it said it was unsucessful.
Next I tried the Unlock PIN option (not sure what that does - can anyone enlighten me?) and then tried changing to PIN again - no luck.
Has anyone been able to change their Egg Money PIN? Can you tell me where?
Cheers

Use a machine displaying the Mastercard logo.0

I had similar problems (it let me enter the new PIN but then reported an error saying that the PIN could not be changed) with a Nationwide ATM changing by PIN for another (non-Nationwide) credit card but it worked OK in a NatWest machine.mr_fishbulb wrote:I have a new Egg Money card. Some ATMs will not be chip-enabled yet and still read the mag-stripe - you cannot change your PIN on these no matter what the bank. It sounds like the first Link ATM you used was one of these.
Basically, when you change your PIN, the ATM has to do two things, change the PIN on the chip and inform your bank of the new PIN. Unless it can do both of these, it will not work. I would suggest trying a "Big-Bank" ATM - these will be the most likely to be fully connected.
The unlock PIN function is used if you incorrectly type your PIN three times at shops and your card gets "locked". You can then take it to a ATM and (as long as you correctly enter your PIN can unlock your card).0 -

I remember that when I changed my PIN (I think at Nationwide too) it did not start working stright away. Wait a little and check if the PIN has been changed correctly online. Will I be able to change my PIN?
Yes. You can change your PIN at most MasterCard branded cash machines, but you'll need to know what your existing PIN is to be able to do this. If you've forgotten your PIN, with Egg you can check it online at any time - just log in to 'your accounts' and select the relevant option under 'View' on the left of the page. Alternatively, you can call us on 08451 233 233 and we'll send it to you by post, but this will take 7-10 days.
What happens if I get my PIN wrong?
You'll have three chances to enter your PIN correctly when you're trying to pay. If you enter it incorrectly three times in a row your PIN will be locked and you'll need to unlock it before you can use it again. You can unlock your PIN by correctly entering it at a MasterCard branded cash machine. Thanks all. I'll try and find a Mastercard logo on one of the big bank's ATMs when I'm next in town.0

Unless you want to use your Egg Credit card to withdraw money, then send back your PIN and ask for a Chip & Signture Card. You wont be locked out in a shop, you don't have to worry about PINs, changing or remembering them and it's probably a lot safer.0

You will still get a PIN with a C&S card to enable you to withdraw money from an ATM.James wrote:Unless you want to use your Egg Credit card to withdraw money, then send back your PIN and ask for a Chip & Signture Card. Secret here is to do what I've done, return the PIN unopened, get confirmation that your card issuer has received it. This means that you can never be held responsible for PIN misuse at an ATM!.
One has to ask. Why are card issuers sending PINs with cards which are Chip and Signature, to people who've opted out of PIN? This doesn't make sense.
Receiving a PIN with a Chip & Signature card only confuses the cardholder. It did me. Two card issuers stumped up £35 in total for the confusion.
Why would someone wo never usese a PIN want to withdraw cash with credit card?0 -
I thought shops were not covered against fraudulent transactions when a card is used without a PIN after 14th Feb? I don't see many will be accepting signatures.0

Only on a C&P card. They are covered with a C&S card or an older non-chip card.mr_fishbulb wrote:I thought shops were not covered against fraudulent transactions when a card is used without a PIN after 14th Feb? I don't see many will be accepting signatures.
And technically shops have not been covered against fraudulent transactions when a C&P card is used without a PIN since 1st January 2005 if they choose to override the PIN. All that changes on the 14th February 2006 is that now the bank will refuse to let shops override the PIN.0
