my iphone 3g wont update!!

at the moment i cant download applications or use facebook on my iphone,its telling me to update to version 2.2 when i plugging my iphone into my comp via the usb and im clicking the update button its giving me a message saying unable to update error -19,ive tried the apple help pages and have been unsuccessful,ive tried restoring my phone and its coming up with the same error message.When im trying to back up my phone its taking hrs!!! ive had my phone on back up since 1.30 and its not even half way done,it hasnt moved for over an hour!! please help
