Hi,
I have just received a quote for full re-wire (except kitchen).. I am a FTB so do not have an idea whether this is reasonable or not.. can you please comment whether this is reasonable or not?
I live in Romford, Essex.

The price sounds too good to be true.
I think the achillies heel is the open ended kitchen. The kitchen could add £300-£550 on to the price, which would bring it to a realistic number.
The kitchen is where most of the electrical hassle is (wiring wise). What happens if the kitchen electrics are dodgy and they only find out half way through the work.
Better to get the quote with kitchen electrics inclued as an option.
Check who gives the quote against the details below
You should use a competent person for the work, links below

Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it.
I am not opting for kitchen re-wire as we will be extending our kitchen after 1-2 years. Instead the guy said he will provide a new circuit in the kitchen and newwiring will be brought and stack up into the kitchen ceiling for future kitchen rewiring.
Do you guys think it is alright then? if it is then I can go ahead with him.. guy seems nice and very professional. He said he will complete the job in 5 days (max 7 if not completed within 5 days).
Thanks,

You don't say where you got the guy's name from. Best bet always is to use someone recommended by friend/neighbour etc who has had work done. Other than that get 2 or 3 quotes for comparison. If you have a local news sheet/magazine of some sort (for your town/village, rather than a local newspaper) you'll often find good local tradesmen advertising on a regular basis.0

I posted the job on myhammer.co.uk and got the guy's name from there.. he had some good recommendations.. Some people were ready to do the whole rewiring for £1500 quid, so this guy was not the cheapest.0
