help with dell inspiron 1545 battery please

I have just bought a dell inspiron 1545 for my daughter. the battery life is only 2 hours though. Is there any way I can upgrade this and if so where do I purchase one from ? I have looked on the dell website with no luck. Many thanks, any advice would be welcome.

that actually sounds about average, what were you expecting ? - you probably can find long life batteries either from Dell or an OEM but it is likely to be quite expensive.

Do you happen to know what type of battery it is (should be a model number on it somewhere) - a google on that rather than 1545 might yield more results.

There are high capacity batteries but they're double the thickness and stick out of the bottom of the laptop by about 1/2" for the full size of the battery. You're looking around £90 for one. Google for them. I got one from b2-shopping.

The older inspiron model , which is now really slow had a 4 hour battery life. Thanks though, I will find out battery type and do another search. I'm pretty rubbish at all this tech stuff !!

Hi there, I've read your post with interest. We've just bought a 1545 and although the PC World spec stated that we could expect 2 hours battery life, we're lucky to get one ! Some evenings, we can charge the laptop twice which, is not what we were expecting.

Do you comfortably get two hours as we get nowhere near ? I'm just asking because I think I need to go back to PC World.

I bought the same laptop from Currys a couple of months ago and I agree, the battery life is rubbish! It starts at fully charged, but within a few minutes the battery life is reduced dramatically (i.e. goes from 2hrs 10mins to 1hr 53 then 1hr 47 within a couple of minutes). We have to keep the mains cable in most of the time which defeats the object somewhat. In the short time it has taken me to write this - the battery life has reduced to 1hr 30m!!!

Sounds about right. Lots of things affect battery life. Screen brightness is one, how hard the CPU is working is another. If you are playing flash games or viewing Youtube videos that will decimate battery life as Flash is very power hungry. On my Macbook Pro and Windows laptops, watching Youtube videos can see a 50% reduction in how long they last on a charge.
