Had burglary in home

I had a burglary in my house! No body was in home. During daytime, two low life scums damaged my fence and broke the lock in my double glazed patio door.
As soon as they entered in the house, my burglar alarm started to sound, my neighbor thus saw them and rang the police. So, they ran away without actually taking anything.
But I've to fix fence + patio door. Will claim from insurance but I have to pay £300 excess [door alone will cost £1200].
Police came and took statement. My neighbor actually saw them and she has been asked to visit police station (they will show her pictures of some known criminals).
Feeling very depressed. But police said there wasn't much I could have done to prevent it anyway.
Any idea how much my home insurance premium will go up next year? My renewal is due next month but as my claim won't be settled before that I can't get a fixed premium
My house is a 3-bed terraced and this is my first ever claim.
Last year I paid only £150 for building + contents cover.

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

I guess it could have been a lot worse if you had had no burglar alarm. I wonder why they chose a house with an alarm? My suggestion and/or advice is my own and it is up to you if you follow it, please check the advice given before acting on it.0

They were probably too stupid to realise until the alarm sounded.0

Well done for having the alarm (and using it). You will probably lose your no claims discount (possibly 20%) and due to a number of factors (including the credit crunch), premiums are likely to rise this year anyway.
What I suggest you do to get an indication of what you are looking at for your next renewal (and to decide whether it is worth the claim) is go on to one of the price comparison sites and put in all your details as if your renewal date were 01/02/09, but without the claim. Note the 5 best prices and who they are with then go back in to the system, add the claim and see what happens.
Speak to a locksmith in your area and see if it is possible to replace the lock only on the door. Make sure it is your fence (and not your neighbour's) before you repair it. At least this will then give you some options to be going on with and you may not have to claim on the insurance if you don't want to.In the beginning, the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and was widely regarded as a bad move. The late, great, Douglas Adams.0 -

May be because lots my my neighbors houses have false (dummy) burglar alarms!
The door frame is damaged in such a way that it can't be repaired but needs replacement.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
these articles might tell you what you need to know, the first one covers how claiming on your home insurance can raise your premium. i would imagine that making any sort of claim on your home insurance will raise your premium whether it be theft or damage
