Paid Congestion Charge, PCN Arrived Today!!

I drove into the congestion zone on 6/1/2009 and phoned my brother to pay the charge when he went into the local shops, via PayPoint.

Today I recieved a PCN through the post and was completely shocked.
On further investigation I have realised my brother put my number plate in the wrong way round. (i.e instead of say G15 CUL he put in CUL G15  ).

What I need to know is if i can contest this or am I forced to pay out this charge?

Moral of the story is duly learnt and in future will do this myself....

Any advice much appreciated.

  • You can appeal but good luck is all I'll say. If you get someone with a brain, they'll realise the error.

I would appeal it. Have you tried calling Customer Services and asking them to look for the other payment. I'm sure if you could give them all the details of the payment, date, location and possibly time, then they might be able to see it is a genuine error.

There is also an appeals process for PCN's on the Congestion Charge website. If you didn't get anywhere then you should definately submit an appeal as chances are the payment your brother made is sitting unallocated somewhere anyway!

I'd give them a call, it seems like it's a pretty genuine mistake, and the payment was made in time, just with the wrong details!

    Good Luck! :)

    Thx for your comments.

I have filled in the form explaining the situation and enclosed a copy of the payment slip.

    Fingers crossed.
