car insurance renewal problem

My car insurance is due for renewal at the end of the month so I searched the comparison sites etc and then rang my current insurer to haggle with them. In the course of the conversation I mentioned that I will be overseas for about six months this year leaving the car in the uk. I was then told that they would not renew my car insurance because of this - even if I renewed now and cancelled it when I leave the country!
Has anyone else had a similar experience or any advice to offer on how I can get insurance? Should I just try another company and keep quiet about going overseas?
Any help would be very welcome... thanks

just stay quiet about going overseas, that was probably a silly thing to mention to be honest, a company wont insure you on a 12 month basis if they know in advance that you'll be cancelling after 6 months.helpful tips
it's spelt d-e-f-i-n-i-t-e-l-y
there - 'in or at that place'
their - 'owned by them'
they're - 'they are'
it's bought not brought (i just bought my chicken a suit from that new shop for £6.34)0 -
Did they put the details of your trip on their system against your name and account number? if it was just mentioned while chatting it may not be on your policy in which case it maybe worth ringing back and hoping you dont get the same person and just renewing your policy?Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0

If an insurance question is asked that requires you to answer it that way then you should disclose it. Otherwise you are just giving them an excuse to reject a claim.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. I am in no way condoning lying to the insurer but I think its quite obvious why they consider it ok - because they want to get the car insured...Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. Seems the OP has no problem lying to her mortgage providers about the letting of her house too.
