Day out in Ireland. Why are Ferrys so expensive?

Hi there,

Last year I went to Ireland on a daytrip. It cost £20 return from Holyhead right into Dublin. This was with Irish Ferries ( I think Stena Line was about £3 more!).

However, having looked again this year, I see prices are a whooping £50 each! (best price). Does anyone have any tips on how to find a cheaper fare, or does anyone know why Ferrys have become 500%+ more expensive in the last year?

£50 minimum with the car. the cheapest is actually is to fly or to take the coach. i think on the coach i used to pay £29 return from london. otherwise i remember in the port of dan loaghaire - one of the dublin ports -t hey used to do a town twinning type of exchange and you could get a day return for about £10 but you did have to prove you either lived in dublin or in holyhead i imagine. dont know if that still exists . if it does would be interested to find out!!! but i found on this website no one in the past really knew about it . it was just pure luck that i found out about it. good luck. though may have seen tonight advertised in national papers irishferries for £60 return but not sure if read right . you will need to check. online is usually cheaper.

tThree of us went to Cork with Ryanair last year on one of the cheap
flights, booked on line,total cost £30 return for the 3 of us,
40 min takeoff to landing in Cork.
Thats the way to do it.
