ppi insurance when does it start paying

Hi, i have mortgage protection insurance and need to claim, but dont know if i am now entitled to anything. I was made redundant in december, co went down and there was no wages for december, i have now started a new job, but will i still be entitled to a claim for the 3 weeks i was without employment and also the fact i have had no wages since end of november ? I believe the policy has a 30 day waiting period but goes back to day 1 , any help appreciated.

You should have been claiming JSA.
You should also be entitled to redundancy payments from the DTI.
Has no-one advised you of this?

For info on policy you will either need to check the booklet or ring your insurer but it wouldn't suprise me if there was a "deferred" period when they don't pay out.

If you have no "emergency find" then you ioght like to start making one in case this happens again.
  • thanks for the reply, i do have an emergency fund which paid last months mortgage etc, and have just started new job, just wanted to know if i will still be entitled to the proportion of the months i was not working. Just as well wasnt relying on redundancy payment from govt , have been told this will take between 1 - 2 months !!!
  • If the policy has a 30-day waiting period, this means that the period of unemployemnt would need to extend to 30 days or more. As you're saying you were in that position for only 3 weeks, then I don't envisage a claim being possible.
