  • Hi In-despair,

you are going through some dark weather and turbulance at the moment but you will get through the other side and blue skys will return.

The gap between your incomings and out goings is not insurmountable and with the right strategy you can close this gap.

Obviously sky needs to go, try and transfer debts to lower interest rates, maybe see if you can go interest only on your mortgage for a while (assuming it is currently capital and interest) or extend the term to reduce your monthly out goings and throw the difference at your debts. I would scap the critical illness cover, quite often they don't pay out and if you do become critically ill I would rely on the state.

Most importantly stay positive and healthy eat / sleep well and execise. Try to enjoy your husband and child, spend some good times with them, see them laugh and smile. A walk in the park, game of monolpoly, snap etc don't cost nothing.

Sharing good times with your loved ones costs nothing but it is worth the world.

On a general note I just want to thank all the people who have tried to help "in despair". It restores your faith in people and as we know 99% of people are decent and caring about their fellow citizens and would like the world to be a better place, but its nice to see it in action in this forum.

Hi in_despair, can't think of anything that others havn't or won't suggest, just want to say how sorry I am for your situation and it is a huge help posting on here, loads of people to help. It must be really difficult for you with a little one and an ill husband, and if you don't having family around. do you have any support groups around you, ie counselling services at work or through your GP, or a church group at all. You are bearing the brunt of all the worry aren't you?

a big hug and a virtual bar of chocolate on its way.

I realy hope things improve for you, please post and let us know how things are going for you

  • I agree that the best things in life are free... I just want to be able to enjoy them! It was my little girls 1st Birthday on Saturday, and I spent the whole day in a mess, crying in despair etc.

I just want to see a way out of this sorry mess - I dont want anyone to hand it to me. I will work for it. That is another reason why I do not want to consider bankruptcy.

I would still really appreciate opinions on what you think the CCCS will say though - and please be HONEST with me.... I can't feel any worse than I do already!

    Best wishes to you all

  • Oh, and I feel like I have made real friends today.

  • Hi Jo,

Yes you have made loads of friends on here!

I haven't dealt with the cccs, but I know from threads on these boards that all the posters have had tremendous support and encouragement, and wish they had done it sooner.

I reckon it's the best thing you can do, and you will wonder what all your worries were about!

Loads of ((((((((HUGS))))))), and stay positive.

    Love

  • Regarding CCCS and what they will say - to be honest with you, they will probably go through all your financial details (like you've already listed on here) and then they will tell you whether you will qualify for a DMP (debt management plan) or whether they suggest something else. They are very nice people and totally non-judgemental. Until you call them you won't know - call them asap and put your mind at rest x

  • I have called them, but my appt is next friday 3rd Feb. In the meantime, I am going out of my mind with worry!
  • I just dont WANT to face it, and comeback to reality - although I KNOW that I have to .... I know that we could carry on as we are, paying off the debts and living off the credit.... but the debts are just getting out ofcontrol. I would predict that we would have 12mths max before reality kicks in and people come knocking on the door. I therefore have to do something before it gets any more out of control....
I think that realistically, with a budget that I have done that excludes the debts but includes a payment/dmp we could afford approx £250 per month. Is that going to be considered enough?
What actually happens on a DMP?I know that interest is frozen - how long will I have to make the payments for? Is it a certain number of years eg 7, or is it until the balance of the debt is paid off?

    Hi In despair,

Speak to the CCCs see what they have to say / suggest (you don't need to make decisions there and then..lets just explore your options first)....come back here and report back and maybe members can then advise you on the way forward and see what your options are.

Why not treat yourself to a worry free day every week.

Lets say this saturday or sunday. Say right I am not going to worry this day but I am going to be positive, enjoy my family / friends. I am going to plan an activity which is cheap and fun and hey see how many times I can laugh or make others laugh in that day.

..and if you really miss thinking about all those worries...you still have the other 6 days left to focus on taking positive action to sort them out.

Keep your chin up what ever happens you have money coming in, so you will have a roof over your head and food on the table.

    I wish you well.

Best things in life are free.
