if the radiators arent getting hot, then there is a problem with your central heating - get a professional out to look at it, rather than waste money on a fan heater and electic

We found it made a difference when we changed the single rads to double. Is this possible? Or maybe your boiler's output is not enough for the rads it has to power?

Or put thick blinds and curtains up all your patio doors and keep the heat in.

Hmm, how do I know if I'm Tier 1 or 2, is there any way of checking?

    Your Price

    Standard Gas for N1

    Meter Type: Credit

    Payment Method: Quarterly Cash/Cheque
    Tier 1
    Tier 2
    7.622p
    per kWh
    3.872p
    per kWh

    (inc.VAT)

    Standard Electricity for N1

    Meter Type: Single Rate Credit

    Payment Method: Quarterly Cash/Cheque
    Tier 1
    Tier 2
    23.939p
    per kWh
    11.612p
    per kWh

    (inc.VAT)

You pay both tier 1 and tier 2 (it is in the small print below that quote)

For Electricity you pay the first 125kWh per quarter at tier 1 rates and the rest at tier 2.

For gas is is the first 670kWh per quarter at tier 1 rates the rest at tier 2.

You really shouldn't be on BG's standard tariff though as there are cheaper tariffs.

I know this really should be in another thread (or I should just search adequately) - but which is BG's cheapest option?

I think the boiler is too weak, I really do - the landlord, who seems a decent enough chap and has sorted everything so far, reckons he got it looked at not long ago and checked out.

I don't think that there is a central heating boiler made that has insufficient output for a "a smallish one bed flat" The system is obviously not working correctly!

Calculated at the more expensive rate, using the 2.4KW heater for 2.5 hours a day for a 31 day month, it will cost me around £40 per month.

Is it just me or is that not particularly expensive?

I've asked the landlord to check if the CH needs looking at again.

More than I'd want to pay to heat one room for a couple of hours,
  • get the landlord to sort out the central heating
the radiators should be to hot to hold your hands on if running correct
remember it is nice to be important
but more important to be nice ;)

Thanks guys - any idea what the going rate is for electricity per KwH, this is all a little new to me..?

I'm with British Gas and am presumably on standard quarterly billing - can't seem to find the actual rate anywhere.

Whilst the landlord is looking into fixing the CH, if I was you I would definitely get myself onto a substantially cheaper tariff. ;) Try the switching sites but DON'T use them to switch - use them to get details of the best tariff/energy supplier then check out one of the plethora of 100% cashback sites (quidco, cashbackkings, topcashback, wepromiseto etc) and see how much they will pay you to switch to that company through them (currently up to £70 available for a dual fuel switch. Why give that to the switching site when you can have it yourself?)

Npower web offer will apparently save me the most money - does that figure?

Also, anyone know how power a 2.4kwh fan heater uses whilst on standby and not blowing out heat?
