AOL, NTL, Broadband and Wireless router!!!!

a little while ago i had set up my sisters pc using a belkin wireless card to connect to a belkin wireless router which then was connected to the standard AOL modem connected to the ntl phone line. This worked fine (or so i thought)

my sister bought a new pc for christmas, i then transferred the wireless card over to the new pc, fired it all up and connected to the internet, 2 days later she couldnt connect, i then paid a visit and found that the modem was connecting to the internet.

my sister has spoken to AOL - didnt want to know as they dont support wireless....... spoken to NTL, not their problem......

apparently this has been intermittantly happening since before christmas ie post new pc.

the wireless card connects to the router with no problem at all, (there is a little indicator panel in the system toolbar - showing green)

the only error/message i can see/fathom is 'ip address not found', i have searched the web and seen several forums with posting realting to the the modem losing its ip address.

does any one have any ideas what i/she can do next.
I have suggested that she get a long cat5 cable and directly connect the pc to the modem to see if the problem reoccurs - which if it does doesnt bode well for the wireless router.
after testing using a cable, that she should then ask NTL to check the broadband line

Which IP does she lose? The IP address for the wireless card?

If so setup the WiFi network with static IP addresses, also what is the signal quality like?

I would also try cat5 cable (its relativeky inexpensive if you stay clear of PC World) to rule out the wireless side of things.

Once you have a better idea of where the problem lies the easier it will be to diagnose exactly what the problem is

i am assuming the ip address is on the modem.

i have just spoken with her, when she spoke to NTL, they did a diagnostic test and it came back ok
the strange thing is the wireless card connects to the wireless router fine and i tested this using my own laptop, but after connecting to the router, you cant get the internet.
I have managed to get a cat5 cable (pinched from work.... he he - network guy said i could help myself), so that i can try the straight connection to the modem.

I had read on the web about the possible need for a crossover cable between the modem and router rather than a standard cat5 cable

how do i set a static ip address? the router already has one, i have read i would need to contact NTL to get a static one for the modem, is this right?
