Tyres for Ford Focus?

My dads 2005 Ford Focus needs 4 new tyres (205/55/91W it says on the current ones).
My dad's local garage (where for years he has always got his cars serviced ) say they can fit some make we have never heard of for £50 each, or Firestone tyres for £57.00 each or Michelin 'PHP' (whatever this means) tyres on offer for £60 each. Are these good prices?
He does quite a few miles in the car on Motorways etc so I am not keen on him getting the cheap ones but would Firestone be okay or would it be worth paying the extra £3.00 each for Michelin?
He doesn't want to go to Kwikfit or anywhere else to get them unless they would be significantly cheaper as he does like using his local garage.
Thanks
Tally

You can serach around online at place like:-
Mytyres or black circles to check what prices are like. But for £3 I would probably go for the Michelin tyres. But I quite like Firestone I used to run them on my old car.
However the size you have given us is incorrect. It should be something like 205/55/16 then a letter. (Unless they measure these some other way)0 -
I would certainly go for the Michelin. They are the best, not just for brand name. The quality is good0

Sounds like a good price for the Michelin's - I'd go for them! If moneys an issue, then the Firestone's would be ok.“Hardware: The parts of a computer system that can be thrown out of the nearest window!”0

I think those are Michelin Primacy HPs and, if they're 16-inchers, then that's an exceptional price for a top-notch tyre. Definitely worth the £3 extra.0 -
definatly go for the michelins, thats an incredible retail price for any kind of michelin tyre at this size (assuming its 205/55/16)
the firestones will have as much grip as the cheap and nasty ones im afraid, they arent usually very good. expensive ditch finders....work permit granted!0 -
Hi,
Thanks all for your replies.
Just to correct, the size is actually 205/55/16W.
With the answers above, I have told dad to get the Michelin ones which are on special offer.
Thanks

Well dad got four Michelin Primacy HP tyres today- including fitting and valves balancing etc total bill £240 at his local garage.
Just out of interest I rang Kwik Fit who said for the same four tyres including balancing, valves etc their price would be £384 (National tyres were similar price to Kwikfit).
It has taught me not to use 'the big boys' when looking for tyres and use local independent garages and see what they have on offer.
