Morning,
I got my Gas and Electricity bill in over the weekend and i am just wondering is it worth switching?? I am currently with EDF, just on their standard tariff and whenever i go onto moneysupermarket or Uswitch, they quote that they can save me £200+ pounds!
However when i look at their tariffs, their charges are more than EDF's! So the question i am asking i guess is are EDF one of the cheapest around and how can npower, scottish power, etc claim they can save me £200+?

When you use the sites, do you enter your annual use in kwh or the amount you pay in £?0

have you applied if eligible for the discount scheme0

I am with EDF and pay by D/D, I found on all the comparison sites EDF prices are not right. They are all higher than the actual price you pay. I think the sites are ok for a rough estimate, but if you are thinking of switching go by the actual pricing on the tariff within the company. N power always comes out great, but when I did a search as though I was an npower user already it was quite a different story. It came out as -£47.00 to switch. I won't switch until they sort out any price reductions, better the devil you know springs to mind.0

thanks guys. it seems to me that switching is a massive waste of time for me being with EDF. the prices there are charging me per KWh for gas and electricity is cheaper than the prices advertised on EDF's competitors.
I might give them a ring to see if i can save anything with them as i am currently on their standard tariffs and paying on receipt of bill! I know DD is cheaper but i like giving my own meter reading before they take any money as i know they will randomly take £400 one month because they are estimating!0 -

This only happens if you pay too little and it's reviewed or, if your consumption leaps unexpectedly. So long as your fixed DD is realistic (1/12 of annual bill), you shouldn't have any problems. The other potential problem is if you don't take account of price increases. There have been a lot of people having their DDs doubled because they've been paying too little and their account has been reviewed after the recent price hikes. You can still submit your own meter readings if they are estimated when you pay by DD.0 -
Also, if you do decide to switch, don't forget to use a cashback site, eg. quidco, to see if you can get cashback on the switch.
I recently had £70 cashback for switching to E.ON (who were the best for me at the time) :money:I'm a nutter :j0 -
I joined their carbon challenge and opted for online readings. It states on my online bill when the next bill is due and they send me a reminder by email. So all I have to do is enter my meter readings online and the bill is made up of that reading, no estimates no quibble. I can check exactly whats happening to account and when the D/D is put through for payment and how much. Therefore if there is a mistake I can deal with it straight away.0
