Polystyrene Coving

Help......
Any tips on how to remove the stuff or is it just a case of chipping it all off with a sharpish implement...? We intend to replace it with more traditional plaster coving so the resulting mess will be covered eventually. Any suggestions welcomed. Thanks

    Mortgage-free Glee!
Cut through it, chip off the easiest to remove with a stout wallpaper scraper and then use a steamer to remove the most stubborn.

it should just scrape off with a standard wall paper scraper to be fair. doesnt matter if you scrape or etch the existing plasterwork as you will require some key for the new cornice to stick to as opposed to a smooth surface
