Question for barrister/judge/law professor re conflict of interest/ethics

Forgive me for this question .... but as it relates to a bet I have made with several members of my family, I regard it as a possible money-saving issue

.

"Can a judge try a criminal case where he/she has a son/daughter who is either counsel for the prosecution or defence of defendent?".

The answer should be obvious but I have spent several hours trawling the net for a definitive and tangible response without success. Hence, my sincere hope that there is a lawyer or teacher of law on this forum who can resolve our debate.

Unfortunately that "Judge Deeds" on BBC 1 has a lot to answer for! I keep requesting my family to separate truth from fiction... but do they listen!?
