Hmmm, in for a penny and all that....how bizarre though.0

I have been in both shops and the stock in the one that has closed was not brilliant, the 99p store directly opposite is pretty big. We still don't have a poundland in our town however, which is a shame as its better than 99p store I think.0

My local town has both a pound shop, and a 99p shop. We also have another chain of cheap shops where everything is a pound or less called 'Sams' and a two other non chain Pound shops. I obviously live in a cheap area!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. have to say we use to have an independent £1 store and witing 3 months of the 99p store arriving in the same mall the £1 shop was gone. 99p shop as part of a chain had better stock etc..Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

Woolworths closed because it basically sold similar stuff to pound shops, but for much more than a pound.0

Our 99p shop closed, and we don't even have a pound shop. Now we don't have a Woolies either. Where am I going to get my tat now?
I did like the 99p shop for the Astonish paste though. Can't get it anywhere now. Great for cleaning your ceramic hob.

On reading this article it seems that too much emphasis has been placed on the difference between 100p and 99p. Infact customers were voting with their feet after becoming aware that in some cases (Pepsi) they could get double the amount and still pay 1p less.0
