economy 10 underfloor heating
Hi , i ve done a few posts now regarding the E10 tariff and have come to the conclusion that its a very expensive tariff for heating. To test the useage i turned all the underfloor heating off, with the exception of my bedroom. I also turned the E10 immersion heater off also.
during the afternoon 1.30pm to 4pm is off peak hours for stored heat with EON . So during the 2.5hours the underfloor heating in my bedroom used 5 kwh. The was on the minimum temp setting. So its basically used 2kwh/ hour ona minimum setting, so maximum must be a lot higher. By the way the underfloor heating was on the night before so the concrete was still warm#
My point is that if i had it on for the full 10 hours that would be aprox 5kwh multiplied by 4. (2.5x4) = 10 hours. So 20kwh x 3 rooms = 60 kwh / per day if i had all 3 rooms on all day. The unit price is around 7.3p i think per kwh.
I was thinking of buying oil filled heaters at 1.5kwh for each of the rooms. Say i have these on a timer for 5 hours a day assuming its on maximum setting . i will be using 2 hours at the night rate before i go to bed and 3 hours during the evening . Lets assume all 3 will be used.
So , 1.5kwh x 2 hours = 3 kwh x 3 units = 9 kwh on the off peak night rate
in the evening on full rate = 1.5kwh x 3 hours = 4.5kwh x 3 units =13.5 kwh
so without even going into the maths on the unit rates, it looks like it may be cheaper going for the oil filled heaters. At least i can control them on/off unlike the underfloor heating which comes on for 10 hours a day whether i like it or not unless i disconnect the fuse at the fuse box.
Has anyone had a similar experience ? contrary to what all electric heating suppliers say, all electric heating is extremely expensive!!!

i have underfloor heating and E10 as well. i recently discovered that EOn has been billing me using an incorrect tariff. it's a long story. i won't trouble you with the details. the short version is that they've been overbilling me for the past year. the customer service and other staff that i've spoken to can't or won't tell me what is the actual E10 tariff. they are offering to negotiate a lump-sum rebate to resolve my complaint. i'd rather they just recalculate my bill using the correct tariff.
can you have a look at your bill and tell me what is the tariff? standing charge. on-peak rates. off-peak rates. i understand that it is different for different regions but i'd like to get an idea about how much my bill ought to have been.0
