Lost dividend tax voucher - help, please!

I'm trying to get my tax return in on time, but have mislaid a couple of tax vouchers for share dividends for the tax year 2007/08. Is there a way (a website, perhaps) where I can find this information? Where do accountants get this information? Help will be very gratefully received.

My local library provided the answer - www.northcote.co.uk. You have to register to use it (but it's free). You search for the company name and then scroll down for dividend details. Easy when you know how. Thanks to those who tried to help.

OH is a sole trader so we use an accountant, and she has to have divi info for his return, but sometimes we can't lay our hands on every last slip. She's always told us it doesn't matter so long as we can confirm nothing has changed from the previous year, because they have some weighty volume or 'bible' in the office where it can all be looked up if necessary, based on his holdings -- she only needs to know how many and who with. Sorry though, I've no idea what it's called :(

If you don't have an accountant, how about contacting the company (or the registrar?) and asking if a copy is possible?

  • You don't actually need the voucher to do your tax return - just the amount. You only need the voucher if HMRC decide to investigate your tax affairs. Even then, if you can show the amount going in to your account, that would probably be sufficient.

Depending on the company, you may be able to find historic dividend rates from their website. Look for 'Shareholder Information' or some such link
e.g. for BP plc dividends you eventually get to -
